M82 is the first public Tumblr theme by Airspace Workshop. It features customizable colors, fonts, and images, as well as Disqus, Streampad, and Twitter integration.

M82 Feature Overview

The M82 Tumblr theme features customizable fonts, colors, background and header images. It also gives you the ability to toggle the following default items either on or off: post notes, post tags, a random post link, a mobile device layout link, people you follow, and individual blog members (for public group blogs). All custom features are managed within the “Appearance” pulldown menu.

Custom Fonts & Colors

The M82 theme provides font selection pulldowns and color pickers for various layout components. Header, Body, and Meta typography may be set within the Appearance panel. Colors for Body, Navigation, Post, Post-Meta, Post-Tags, and Links may be set using color pickers.

Custom Background & Header Images

Both the header image and the body background image (the M82 typographic treatment and galaxy photo respectively in this demo) may be swapped with your own custom images in the Appearance panel. For the header, we suggest using an image with transparency (either .png or .gif). Also, the header image should have a maximum width of 500px.

Background images are centered and not-repeated by default. You may enable tiling for background patterns in the Appearance panel.

Twitter & Facebook Integration

jQuery is used to keep the navigation bar slim and functional, and emphasize your blog’s content, rather than its meta-content. If you have enabled Twitter in the “Customize > Services” menu, you can choose to display your latest tweet by enabling “Show Twitter Status”.

To facilitate social sharing, M82 includes both Twitter and Facebook links, allowing your readers to easily share your content with their followers and friends. This feature may be enabled by clicking the “Enable Social Sharing” checkbox.

Disqus Comments

Disqus is a comment system and moderation tool. It is much more robust than the default Tumblr notes system, and can be enabled within the M82 theme by providing your “Disqus Shortname”. Registration with Disqus is required, at which time you may choose a shortname for your blog, if you do not already possess one.

Streampad Audio Playlist

For you music bloggers, Streampad may be enabled by simply clicking a checkbox. Streampad automatically detects and loads all audio content you have posted, and presents it in a simple playlist format at the bottom of the page. You also have an option of allowing externally hosted audio files to be downloaded, or not.

Statistics Via Google Analytics

If you use Google Analytics to track your blog’s performance, you can quickly enable it by entering your full “Google Analytics Web Property ID”, including the “UA” and dashes, in the form of: UA-XXXXX-YY.

Why Isn't My Twitter Status Showing?

  • Blogger: I checked "Show Twitter Status" but it's not showing up. What gives?
  • ASWS: Well, have you entered your Twitter username and password under "Services"?
  • Blogger: Yep, I can post Tumblr updates to Twitter successfully.
  • ASWS: Okay, so your info is good... and you're sure the "Show Twitter Status" is checked under "Appearance"?
  • Blogger: Uh huh.
  • ASWS: Hmmm, wait! Are your Twitter updates public or private?
  • Blogger: Private. I don't want my boss knowing what I'm up to.
  • ASWS: That's the problem... in order to appear in your theme, your Twitter updates must be public.
