The M82 Tumblr Theme is now available as a one-click install in the Theme Garden.
The M82 Tumblr theme features customizable fonts, colors, background and header images. It also gives you the ability to toggle the following default items either on or off: post notes, post tags, a random post link, a mobile device layout link, people you follow, and individual blog members (for public group blogs). All custom features are managed within the “Appearance” pulldown menu.
The M82 theme provides font selection pulldowns and color pickers for various layout components. Header, Body, and Meta typography may be set within the Appearance panel. Colors for Body, Navigation, Post, Post-Meta, Post-Tags, and Links may be set using color pickers.
Both the header image and the body background image (the M82 typographic treatment and galaxy photo respectively in this demo) may be swapped with your own custom images in the Appearance panel. For the header, we suggest using an image with transparency (either .png or .gif). Also, the header image should have a maximum width of 500px.
Background images are centered and not-repeated by default. You may enable tiling for background patterns in the Appearance panel.
jQuery is used to keep the navigation bar slim and functional, and emphasize your blog’s content, rather than its meta-content. If you have enabled Twitter in the “Customize > Services” menu, you can choose to display your latest tweet by enabling “Show Twitter Status”.
To facilitate social sharing, M82 includes both Twitter and Facebook links, allowing your readers to easily share your content with their followers and friends. This feature may be enabled by clicking the “Enable Social Sharing” checkbox.
Disqus is a comment system and moderation tool. It is much more robust than the default Tumblr notes system, and can be enabled within the M82 theme by providing your “Disqus Shortname”. Registration with Disqus is required, at which time you may choose a shortname for your blog, if you do not already possess one.
For you music bloggers, Streampad may be enabled by simply clicking a checkbox. Streampad automatically detects and loads all audio content you have posted, and presents it in a simple playlist format at the bottom of the page. You also have an option of allowing externally hosted audio files to be downloaded, or not.
If you use Google Analytics to track your blog’s performance, you can quickly enable it by entering your full “Google Analytics Web Property ID”, including the “UA” and dashes, in the form of: UA-XXXXX-YY.
The best way to see just how versatile the M82 theme is, is by installing it and playing with the many options. Let us know what you create!
